The ROBUSTOO team from CSIC-CIB, led by our coordinator Susana Camarero, participated in the XIV edition of Madrid es Ciencia, one of Spain’s leading science outreach events.
At our partner’s stand, students and the general public were engaged with interactive activities showcasing the fascinating world of enzyme engineering. The spotlight was on lignocellulose-degrading fungi, one of our key focuses.
Visitors had the chance to:
• Observe real wood-degrading fungi and learn how we cultivate them in the lab
• Detect enzyme activity and discover its potential in breaking down environmental pollutants
• Extract DNA from plant cells using a simple and fun protocol
During the event, Susana Camarero was also interviewed by Spanish national television for the program “Europe 2025,” where she shared insights into her work on EU-funded projects like ROBUSTOO and the importance of promoting sustainable innovation through research.
